The City of Sarnia, in partnership with the Seaway Kiwanis Club, are excited to announce the return of Easter in the Park at Canatara Park by the Animal Farm on Saturday, April 16, from 9:00am – 12:00pm. This year marks the 52^nd year of the annual event, which traditionally attracts hundreds of children and families.

Activities and Entertainment

Throughout the morning, attendees can participate in Easter craft-making, train rides, a visit to the Animal Farm, and Ukrainian Easter Egg demonstrations (otherwise known as Pysanka). The infamous Circus Johnathan will also be returning to the event. Two half-hour performances will be scheduled for 9:30am and 11:30am. The Seaway Kiwanis Club will be selling hot dogs and refreshments at a low cost.

The Egg Hunt

The annual Egg Hunt will begin at 10:00am, led by the Easter Bunny itself! The “Hunt” will be divided into three different age groups and locations around the event area, as follows:

• 4 and Under & Accessible (at the Seaway Kiwanis Pavilion);
• 7 and Under (by the playground); and
• 8 and Up (beside the BMX track).

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own basket! After hunting for coloured eggs, attendees can bring those eggs back to the Train Station in exchange for a sweet treat and activity page. Special thank you to Toys R Us.

An Egg Hunt Twist: Crock-a-Doodle Eggs

New this year, attendees will have an opportunity to also hunt for ceramic eggs, hidden in each egg hunt location. These eggs can be taken back to Crock-a-Doodle, located at the Real Canadian Superstore, to be painted free of charge!

In partnership with NOVA Chemicals and The Rotary Club of Sarnia-Lambton After-Hours, the City of Sarnia Parks and Recreation Department hosts a Community Parks Clean-Up Day.  The goal of this event is to engage community participation in cleaning up our City parks, trails, boulevards and public spaces.  The event also provides an opportunity for community members to get outdoors into their neighborhoods and parks, and even make up some volunteer hours.  Citizens, community groups, local service clubs, and local organizations are invited to gather and assemble a crew, identify a park space to clean, and register that site with our Parks and Recreation Department.  Once registered, clean-up groups will receive supplies (gloves, garbage/recycling bags, rakes, first-aid kit, etc).

Information on 2022

Join us on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 10:00am – 12:00pm as we clean-up our City parks, trails, boulevards, and public spaces!

We invite all community members to either:

1. Assemble a personal “Clean-Up Crew” and identify a park or green space to clean; OR
2. Join the City of Sarnia Clean-Up Crew at Canatara Park.

All participating community members and groups must complete the downloadable Registration Form below!

Community members that have assembled a “Clean-Up Crew” are eligible for a complimentary NOVA Clean-Up Kit, consisting of gloves, garbage bags, and a recycling bin, donated by NOVA Chemicals. Sharps kits will also be available, donated by Lambton Public Health. While supplies last!

At the conclusion of the clean-up at 12:00pm to 12:30pm, all community members are invited to Canatara Park for a complimentary BBQ, provided by the Rotary Club of Sarnia-Lambton After-Hours. Please RSVP on the Registration Form here to ensure that enough supplies are purchased!

On April 30^th to May 1^st, the Kinsmen Club of Sarnia, will be hosting a NEW event at Baxter Park the “Spring into Summer Arts and Craft Show”. The event will take place, Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Baxter Park is located off Lakeshore Road (official Address 1582 Colborne Rd) and was established as a city park in the late 1960’s. This site was once famed as the heart of summer fun in the Great Lakes region.

The Sarnia Kinsmen Club have been serving and building the Sarnia Community for over 90 years.” said Jack Struck, co-chair of the new event. “Much of our community involvement and philanthropy would not have been possible without collaboration. Over the years the Kinsmen have hosted many events, including the annual Ribfest, Canada Day Parade and Santa Claus Parade. We have raised over $1 million dollars for our community and supported many initiatives and we look forward to continuing our efforts and truly making a difference”.
